More 'viral' cleverness from around abouts these days, I'm talking about the ones for The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins which single-handedly rescued the Batman movie franchise after it got.. well crap.
Anyway, two websites have floated to the surface of the internets, the first IBelieveInHarveyDent.com appears to be a pro-Dent election flier. For those not in the comic-book nerd privy, Harvey Dent is the district attorney who goes a little mad, gets his face burned and becomes perhaps my favourite Batman villain, Two-Face.
Anyhoo, there is a second website, IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com which shows a cool defaced version of the aforementioned flyer, previously you were asked to supply an e-mail address where it would send a X and Y co-ordinate to enter into that site which would take off a piece of the image.
Of course once the people heard of this, the image of how Joker will look in the new movie was revealed in a few hours..

..pretty crazy, yeah?
I was a little concerned about Heath Ledger as the Joker, but this is a really good look for the more violent and psychotic Joker they're going for.
Good work.

Here's a random 'plug' of sorts.
I'm a fan of the website something awful it's freaking hilarious, and at times genius.
That genius usually strikes during their so-called Photoshop Phriday's and this weeks really caught my eye.
It's movie posters re-done in a Grindhouse-style, and has some awesome results.
Such as..

and

culminating in this

Now, I freakin' love posters that use style like this, V for Vendetta did something like that in one of their posters as you can see below..

..if I can ever find that on sale at one of Monash's frequent poster-sales I'll just have to pick it up.
Anyway, that's enough taxing on your bandwidth for the moment.

Well today is a glorious day.
Today Black Isle/Interplay release the now defunct Fallout 3, or Van Buren.
I've made clear my love for Fallout previously, and this is very much great news. This is a game I've been waiting for since the release of Fallout 2 a solid 8 and a touch years ago.
Now I'll finally have what I've been waiting for, albeit in a pre-alpha build of the game, apparently it's as buggy as the tropics (heh heh, malaria) but I don't care, I wants to see it in action.
Anyway, I joined the 30-minute queue to download the game from No Mutants Allowed and it's now steadily filtering through the tubes of the internet.
Good times and no study are ahead.
In (at the time of writing) 1 hour 15 minutes and 24 seconds I'll be able to find out just what could have been.
Althought that may not be exact, and indeed I hope it is much sooner than that.
BONUS CONTENT!
I would just like to give a shout-out to Heroes, for being fucking awesome.
They just did an episode based in the future, that's awesome.
Also, World of Warcraft eats more of my life. One day I just may have to do a post dedicated to the daily trials of my elves...

Yes, I've been ignoring LiveJournal, but for totally good reason...
...well, not really, I've just been playing way too much World of Warcraft (level 45, yeah biatch) and watching as much Battlestar Galactica as my greedy little eyes can absorb.
Yes, eyes can do that.
Anyhoo, I've been saying for a wee while that I'll put some new reviews up here as that's what this site was initially for. So I'll be dropping a review on Hotel Dusk: Room 215 sooner rather than later.
And, hell, you may just luck out and get reviews for other mediums.
As a real short side note, 300 is the perfect movie for you if you're male, not to say it's just for the guys but lets run through some simple maths.
Violence + History + Spartans + Bewbs = Sterotypical male love.
There are of course other things that can be added, such as + Frank Miller comic or + Mutants but that's just me.
So.
Yes, fantastic bit of movie work, great filming style as well, although comments like these are not without bounds.
But I dug the way it worked.
...Oh and according to trailers, Grindhouse is making it to our shores as a one-piece double-feature. If that makes sense.
This pleases me.
No maths are necessary when it's possible to involve Tarantino, Rodriguez and Kurt (muthafuckin') Russel in the same flick.
Well played, movie gods.

Well, not really.
I decided a few weeks ago that I needed a new power supply for my gaming rig, I believe at the moment it's rocking about 550W, and that was doing well.
Then I dropped in a new sound card, which is this baby here...

...pretty, right?
That's the Creative X-Fi, a card I mentioned some interest in a little while ago.
I picked that up a few weeks ago during one of my timely jaunts into the city, during which I went to Big Day Out and saw Tool in concert, both fucking awesome experiences based around audio.
Thus I felt it a good idea to pick up a new audio card, as my on-board just wasn't doing it for me.
The install was pleasant as hell, I'm running XP by the way, and it went perfectly.
The only problem was, on installing the card, it seems like a had quite a painful performance slump. The sound was golden of course, but my system ran a little sluggy.
Since I met all the other specs, and the software that came with the card wasn't resource heavy, I figured it must be my power supply as I have a fair few things in my rig that may thirst for power the way I thirst for a nice brew.
One of those things being my lovely XFX 7800 GS...
Anyway, to re-focus, I've decided to pick up a Thermaltake Toughpower 750W monster to power the rig.
Here's a glory shot of it...

..lovely.
She'll cost me $229, which isn't that bad and I plan on keeping this baby around for awhile
I figure it will go well with my ridiculously huge Armor* case also by Thermaltake.
And, yes, here's another un-necessary picture to end on.

Fantastic.
*Damned American spelling, it's has a 'U' dammit!

music: nine inch nails - my violent heart
This post concerns the new marketing scheme enacted by Nine Inch Nails.
They have a new album out soonish called Year Zero, and they've started a sweet viral marketing scheme to promote it.
Firstly, they released a tour shirt with highlighted letters that lead to a website, and then a few other websites that had fucking strange things on them, like these pictures.

Now, Nine Inch Nails have been doing a pre-release tour, and at one a fan found a thumb drive with an MP3 on it, I heard this from Digg by the way.
So, if you want to peruse the thread, it's not a bad track at all, if you're a fan of that particular flavour.
Now, some clever beans heard the crazy static at the end of the song and thought that it was a bit too perfect and clean, so they threw the entire file through a spectral analysis and came out with this cool thing at the end.

Compare that with the above and you'll see that similar hand which appears to be a running theme through the websites.
Now, that's just fucking cool.
I love viral marketing, I know there are qualms and all that about using it but to hell with that, it's a creative way of doing things and I really enjoy that effort taken for the sake of immersion.
Anyway, that's all for the moment, but check out the song, the new album sounds like it may be a blast.
Edit: I changed the image the other one experienced the Digg effect.

Those clever cats over at Lego have developed a new range of sets for the up-coming 30th anniversary of Star Wars.
Now, I must first state I'm a fan of Lego, does that make me a man-child?
Who cares, it's awesome.
Every since I saw the crazy big Death Star II and Imperial Star Destroyer that Lego where offering for purchase, I knew I wanted to grab them and make myself some awesomely impractical ornaments.
But, now, they have a new beast, behold!

A glorious 5000-piece, 3-ft scale monster.
It's brilliant.
Therefore, I must find a way to justify the purchase.
Lego has always been kinda pricey, not over the top, but definitely worth of a few extra pennies put aside, and this set is certainly no exception clocking in at a mighty $980.
And that's no small change.
Ah well, I guess it'll remain one of those random aims to take care of until I get stupidly rich. Unfortunately, as happens a lot to me, when I get the money I will more often than not talk myself out of said purchase. That exact reasoning is why I currently am not in possession of that previously mentioned Death Star, which a mate of mine had scouted in the wild.
Stupid logic.
Anyway, I just though I would show that lovely little kit with y'all, hopefully one day I will be able to add it to my collection.
Oh, and I probably owe you guys a review or two, I'll get on to that sooner or later.

First, I should note.
I'm a Mac fan, I wasn't until a few years ago though, I was fervently a PC gamer and couldn't comprehend the idea of using a Mac over a PC.
Then I learnt of the iPod and how damned sexy it was, so I bought one, a lovely 20gb 3rd gen. model that server me for many years until I upgraded.
I bought a Mac Mini a year or so before they switched over to Intel and got a much larger following, since then I've wanted to up-grade again but more often then not the money that may have gone towards that went to my PC, the gaming rig.
This was because I was much more a gamer than a Mac enthusiast, and given Mac's track record of game ports, this was an issue.
Sure, I had heard there were ways to emulate PC games on a Mac, but I thought it would be clunky and software based.
Then I saw this..
(it's a long video, so skip if you aren't drawn to Mac pimping)
..basically it shows PC games performing nicely on a Mac (a Macbook Pro apparently.)
This is a worry as my primary reason for not pulling the big switch is now disintegrating and I may need to pick up a shiny new Mac to test this.
Curse you Apple, curse you brilliant VMware programmers.
Now, I need to look into what Mac will most tempt me.
Of course, I won't be buying my second Mac until at least Leopard is out, and more realistically not until much later this year.
Oh, and I'll have to research more into this VMWare Fusion.

Yes, yes, it's a cop out of a title but I care not because the epic series I've been reading, and am 'calmly' waiting the next book of, is being taken to the small screen.
This is really good news, I love HBO and the shows they churn out.
Band of Brothers, Entourage, Deadwood and the Sopranos are all brilliant shows and I recommend them all.
The decision to make A Song of Ice and Fire into a TV show rather than a movie makes perfect sense and, as mentioned in the article, each book will equate to a season which is just about the only way for it to work. Alot of stuff happens per book and you would want to be able to see it all.
And, as for book size, the article does not embellish, the books are either over, or close-to, the thousand page mark, making the series as it stand around 3 times larger than the Lord of the Rings.
But you can't judge a book's scale just by page-count, so you'll just have to read them.
I do recommend them as well.
So, yes, good news. I just hope it eventuates.
And isn't crap.

I mean, look at this, it's friggin' gorgeous.

And just when I was looking at buying a new phone with e-mail abilities.
Curse you.
Just tell me how much it is and I'll cut you a cheque, Steve.
Edit: Also, it looks like I may have to wait a bit.

Guess this may be next years' purchase.
